Key Stage 4 GCSE Technology - Resistant Materials
In September the Year 10 Resistant Materials pupils were given an open ended design brief to "design and make an LED table lamp. The lamp must be innovative, creative and inspired from the work of an existing designer or building / artefact.
It has been a pleasure to see the pupils' design work unfold throughout the year culminating in a final exhibition this April.
The project, which enabled the pupils to research, investigate and model their ideas, has captured their imagination. The students have been engaged throughout the process often to the point where they developed a competitive edge.
The final outcomes create totally different moods which are at times appealing, calming and energising. Teaching staff and pupils throughout the school were asked to view the exhibition and record their comments about the final designs. Furthermore they have all voted for a pupil who they think should be awarded 1st, 2nd and 3rd. (Results to follow - their are too many to count, thank you to everyone who took the time out to place a vote it was very much appreciated by the pupils)
It must be placed on record that all the pupils are winners and their work has instilled in them the required confidence as they embark on their Year 11 Controlled Assessment.
Special thanks must go to Mr Taylor for all the work and encouragement he has provided throughout the pupils "design journey", especially with reference to the work they carried out on the laser cutter.
