Learn For Life

Learning for Life is based around the PLTS (Personalised Learning and Thinking skills).

L4L – Year 7 & 8

This subject works hand in hand with RE with each subject taking an alternate one hour each. Learning for Life is based around PLTS (Personalised Learning and Thinking skills). Our aim is to make pupils better: Independent Enquirers, Creative Thinkers, Reflective Learners, Team Workers, Self Managers and Effective participators. Through studying a range of topics pupils are able to develop vital skills that will not only support them in all other areas of the curriculum but will empower our young people to understand their own personal development.

Year 7 & 8 will cover:

  • PLTS (personalised learning and thinking skills)
  • Personal wellbeing
  • Economic well being
  • Citizenship
  • Healthy relationships

Under each of these topics pupils will have the opportunity to learn about and form their own opinions on a range of contemporary issues covering:

  • Being safe online
  • Their rights and responsibilities as a good citizen
  • How the law protects them
  • Healthy lifestyles
  • Making choices
  • Understanding finances
  • Celebrating British values

Citizenship – year 9 & 10

This subject forms part of the enrichment programme at KS4. There is a 12 week block of teaching with students receiving one hour per week of citizenship for each of those 12 weeks.

Building upon skills and knowledge learned during L4L in lower school, citizenship covers the following topics:

  • Democracy and law making
  • Politics
  • Healthy lifestyles – including alcohol, drugs and safe sex education

Year 7 pupils will:

Understand how they learn best

Identify their own strengths and how they can improve in other areas

Understand how their brain works and how to best use it

Understand how to work as a team and learn from others around them.
