Yr 7/8 Girls Football

Excellent performance from the Junior Girls football team; finalists in the 6 aside tournament at Irlam & Cadishead - Maisy Bradbury, Ellie Knight, Eve Garvey, Chloe Cullen, Morgan Dale, Eleanor Earith, Olivia Merriman, Ellie Johnson.

On Wednesday night, our Junior Girls’ Football team travelled to Irlam for the first tournament of the New Year. The girls won all four games in the group stages beating Albion 1-0, Bridgewater 2-0, Irlam 3-0 and All Hallows 1-0. We then faced St Patricks in the final with no score after normal time the game went to penalties (which is more luck than skill). At 2-2, the penalties carried on through to sudden death and as a consequence we narrowly lost.

Special mention to the girls as the conditions were very unforgiving with strong winds and it being bitterly cold. In an all round team effort, we had tremendous goal scoring efforts from Ellie Knight and Olivia Merriman, a true captain’s performance from Eve Garvey and excellent defensive efforts from Chloe Cullen, Morgan Dale, Elleanor Earith, Elle Johnson. Whilst keeper Maisy Bradbury pulled of some amazing saves including an excellent last minute save in the final to take the game to penalties.

Well done and I look forward to the next tournament.

Mr J. Simmons
