Year 11 Charity Launch

This week in school we have launched the “Year 11 Charity”. The Year 11s are going to lead the whole school, over the course of the academic year, in a series of charity fund-raising events.

The chosen charity is “When You Wish Upon A Star”. The aim is for the whole school community to raise £7,000. This will enable the children in their final year at Walkden High School to send a ‘poorly’ child and their family to have a two week holiday of a lifetime in Florida. The child will get the opportunity to swim with dolphins and spend those special moments together a s a family creating memories that will last a life time for the family.

The first challenge is to get everyone, pupils, staff, parents, carers and the wider community to donate £1 for the ‘Charity Bade’. This will raise of £1,500.

The Year 11s will be asking pupils and staff to donate 50p on 50p Friday. This will happen once a months with the possibility of accruing £750 per month. The potential total is £7,500.

Each half term will see a fund-raising opportunity in school. Ideas so far include

  • Y11 vs Staff Bush Tucker Trial
  • Y7 Christmas Disco
  • Onesie Day
  • Tesco Bag-packing.

Not to be out done, the staff are getting involved with 6 members of staff cycling 1,000 miles from Lands End to John O’Groat’s which will happen at Whit next year.

Over the course of the year there will be regular updates as to how the Y11s are progressing towards their targets. If you, or the company you work for, are able to support the Y11s in anyway, no matter how big or small, then please get in touch with Mr Moseley by e-mail to: or speak to a Y11.
