The start of the academic year has been a very busy one for Y10 Students. Over 118 applications were received from Y10 students for the role of Peer Mentor, we appointed close to 50. As the role develops we are hoping to enroll further students to get involved. The Peer Mentors were key to the smooth running of Transition Days and ensuring Year 7 felt confident about September. I am extremely proud of our Peer Mentors they are certainly Walkden Stars.

Year 10 also had the opportunity to engage in a new initiative organised by the local Police. After an information talk in assembly promoting the Police Cadets, we had over 50 applicants. The majority of these applicants have now enrolled as Cadets and are now enjoying the benefits and opportunity. The feedback from The Police, as expected, is that the students are an absolute credit.

We are currently in the process of organising University students to offer mentoring sessions to our Year 10 students who may be considering University. The aim of these sessions are for students to discuss possible subject choice, fees and any worries or concerns they, or indeed their parents, may have. There may be an opening for The University staff and ambassadors to have a question and answer sessions if my Year 10 parents feel they would benefit from this.

Great Year so far, looking forward to the rest of the year.
