Year 8 Football - B team continue journey to Quarter Finals

On Tuesday 12th January, our Year 8 Football B team made the long journey to Hull to face Wolfreton School in the last 16 of the English Schools’ Cup.

On a cold, wet afternoon the boys dominated the early stages but somehow found themselves trailing 2-0 as the home side looked threatening on the counter attack. Louis Quinn’s goal just before half time gave the boys hope of a comeback. The second half followed the same pattern of the first, with Walkden creating numerous opportunities but somehow the ball would not cross the line. With 15 minutes remaining, substitute Liam Spinks made an immediate impact as he raced clear to make it 2-2, and then two minutes later Denzel Narciso surged forward and coolly finished to give us a 3-2 lead. Spinks then found himself all alone in the area to notch his second and make it 4-2. Unbelievable scenes!

There was still time for Wolfreton to score a third, and as the final minutes ticked by, we had to endure some nervy moments before the referee blew his whistle. What a comeback from the boys to seal a place in the Quarter Finals.

In the last 8, we will host Thomas Telford on Tuesday 31st January, with a 1.30pm kick off.
