Quadkids Strike Gold

On Tuesday, we hosted the Salford Schools’ Quadkids Athletics with teams from Moorside, All Hallows and Walkden vying for the right to represent Salford at the upcoming Greater Manchester Summer Games.

Walkden A team: In the Long Jump Sam Hopkins best attempt of 3.68m led the way for the boys’ team followed by Max Moseley’s 3.64m. Jemima Grimshaw’s leap of 3.39m and Ruby Jackson’s 3.31m were the best for the girls. In the Vortex howler throw Finley Lambert’s effort of 27.70m took maximum points whilst Grimshaw’s throw of 26.00m was best in the girls. In the 800m Hopkins led the way with a time of 2.35:5 with Charlie Mansfield second in a time of 2.49:2. In the girls’ race, Molly Franks-Calcutt finished first in a time of 3.02:2 with Lily Matthews in second (3.04:4). In the 100m Mansfield finished quickest in a time of 14.1s with Deborah Otunji winning the girls’ race (15.0s).

There were also notable performances from the Walkden B team, especially Femi Adesanya who threw the Vortex howler 38.30m and leapt 3.58m in the Long Jump. Will Brennan and Malcolm Edeko clocked 14.2s in the 100m. For the girls, Isabelle Fairhurst’s 3.23m in the Long Jump and 15.0s in the 100m were highlights.

In the overall standings, and after a recount, Walkden B team finished a creditable 3rd with 1227 points. Walkden A pipped Moorside to the title by 1 point (1436 to 1435) so a split second on the sprint or a centime-tre in the sandpit was crucial! Well done team. Our A team now go forward to represent Salford at next week’s Summer Games at Sport City on Wednesday 6th July.

Well done everyone!
