Year 10/11 Rugby ‘Emerging Schools’ Festival Winners

On Tuesday, our combined Year 10 and 11 Rugby squad took part in the RFU Emerging Schools’ Festival held at the Armitage Centre,Manchester. With a number of our squad playing the Union code outside of school, this was a great opportunity for all involved. The boys played three games, winning all three and conceding just the one try along the way. In our first encounter, we faced Wellington Academy with William Toone and Domonic Jones crossing for the tries in a 10-0 victory.

Our second game against Altrincham College proved to be our toughest game of the afternoon with both sides defending well and competing at the breakdown. With Brad Palmer and Kel Willock-Malin leading the way with try saving tackles, Adam Durkin’s try in the closing minutes gave the boys a 5-0 win. In the third pool game we faced Loreto HS dominating the early stages with Matthew Percival and Lewis Lightbown doing the hard yards. Dom Jones scored two tries, with Will Toone landing a conversion to give us a 12-0 lead. Loreto finished strong and scored a consolation try as the game finished 12-5.

In what could potentially be their last outing for the school, the boys played with a great level of spirit and commitment, and I would like to thank the squad for all their efforts over the past 5 years.

Squad: Lewis Lightbown, Adam Durkin,Matthew Lee, Matthew Percival, Alex Hardman, Brody Howell-Partington, William Toone, Kieran Molyneux,Robert Strickland, Sam Rutter, Domonic Jones, Kel Willock-Malin, Brad Palmer.
