Year 10 Languages Visit to Old Trafford

Year 10 pupils enjoyed a visit to Old Trafford on Thursday 15th December. The trip was to learn about the importance of languages within sport and also about globalisation.

First of all, we enjoyed a walk around the Manchester United museum to learn a bit about the club’s history. Next we had an education session where we learned all about the global nature of the club and football as well as the importance of languages.

This is especially evident as the majority of the club’s fans are not English and the club has teams of people who are on social media in different languages for the fans in Asia, South America and Africa.

Finally we got a stadium tour. Highlights were walking out of the players tunnel, getting to sit in the dressing room and learning a little bit about what goes into maintaining the million pound pitch!

Pupils were excellently behaved as always and had really positive feedback about the trip. Some quotes from the pupils;

“C’était genia!l - It was great!” Max Melia

“It’s really made me think about the importance of speaking another language.” Devon Cavanagh

“I had an excellent time." Bailey McCann

The trip was heavily oversubscribed and as it was so popular we will be looking to run another visit in the Spring Term. Thank you to Mr Coxon and Mr Jones for accompanying us on the trip.
