U13 Cricket – Wonderful Wilson ton seals place in last 16...

On Tuesday, our U13 Cricket team hosted Audenshaw School in the second round
of the Lancashire Cup. On a cool, sunny afternoon Walkden won the toss and elected to bat first. Openers Sam Blezard and Josh Wilson were soon into their stride and an opening partnership of 62 inside 8 overs set the tone for the innings. Blezard was run out for 16 but Wilson continued to play fluently and passed 50. He was given support by Oliver Gaskill who added a quickfire 20* in a partnership of 51 as Walkden’s total passed the 150 mark. There were no nervous 90 moments for Wilson and he brought his century up with another boundary before falling in the final over for a fantastic 127 (20 fours, 3 sixes). The innings closed on 186-3 from the allotted 20 overs.

In reply, Audenshaw’s innings never really got going thanks in part to Bradley Peers and Wilson’s opening spells. A couple of run outs reduced the visitors to 28-2 before Nathan Lacey took two wickets in two balls, with the hat-trick ball only just being kept at bay! Lacey finished with figures of 2-13, whilst Ben Anderton (1-20) and Tom Cox (1-7) also claimed wickets in their 4 over spells as Audenshaw finished on 54-6. A comprehensive 132-victory seals our place in the last 16 with our opponents still to be confirmed.

Team: Tallis Keeler, Sam Blezard, Joshua Wilson, Oliver Gaskill, Luke Wilson, Tom Cox, Nathan Lacey, Bradley Peers, Ben Anderton, Harry Bentley, Jack Morrissey, Ben Charlesworth.
