Level 4 School Games at Loughborough

Last weekend saw the annual Level 4 School Games take place at Loughborough University. At the Games students from across the UK compete in a number of activities that are currently taking place at the Olympic and Paralympic Games.

This year James Edwards (who has just left in Year 11) took part in the Fencing Team and competed for the sabre, whose technique emphasises speed and feints. James was 1 of 4 team members who competed at the games. James and his team were successful in the games bringing home the GOLD medal for England.

Alongside the School Games Sport England also run a Talent Identification Programme where 300 young, aspiring county and regional level athletes from across the country are brought together to participate in a 3 day residential learning experience. Throughout the programme experienced Athlete Mentors bring to life the world of an elite athlete and the journey it takes to reach the top.

This year Hollie Bawden (who also left in Year 11) was successful in obtaining a place on this prestigious event where she had the opportunity to meet Olympic champion Max Whitlock alongside the Brazillian Bobsleigh team.

Hollie had the opportunity to get involved in theoretical workshops, practical sessions and to experience what it is like at a multi-sport event.
