Chloe and Caitlin Spink excel on the dance floor in Blackpool

Back in April, young ladies and gentlemen from all over the North West made their way to the home of Ballroom and Latin dancing in Blackpool. Amongst the vast amount of extremely talented dancers was sisters Chloe, year 8, and Caitlin Spink, year 7. Between them they currently hold four out of 6 North West titles. Participating and competing in Latin and Ballroom dancing is not something you would know about these talented young ladies as modesty is a quality they both possess. They are, however, exceptionally talented individuals. Both girls train tirelessly week in, week out but with a smile on their faces as it is obvious that this is more than just a hobby to them. It is their passion and the vast amount of hours and effort they plough into this sport really pays off when you see the level that they perform at.
Both girls had to be successful in qualifying competitions to even have the opportunity to compete in the under 14’s category in Blackpool. That in itself is an amazing achievement. The competition saw the opening rounds start at 9am and runs all day. The dance floors were packed with  girls and boys dancing around each other,
occasionally colliding together, all hoping to be spotted by the judges in order to progress further in the competition. For those of you that have never been to a competition of these sorts before, the competitors don’t know which genre of Ballroom or Latin they will need to perform. This means that they need to have
routines practiced and polished for all eventualities.
Caitlin and Chloe both excelled and stood out from the crowd throughout their heats and both made it to a semi-final. Caitlin qualified for the Latin semi-finals and Chloe qualified for the Ballroom semi-finals.
These competitions are not easy and require mental toughness as well as extremely high levels of skill and physical ability. These girls should be commended on their approach and maturity to this competition.
Chloe and Caitlin did exceptionally well and should be very proud of themselves. It is wonderful to have such  talented pupils at Walkden High School.

Congratulations ladies!!
