Salford Schools Futsal Competition

On Thursday our senior girls football team took part in the Salford Schools Futsal competition. The girls were under some pressure to do well as reigning champions form 2016. With a few changes to last years squad the girls were looking strong and spirits were high amongst the girls.

The competition would see Walkden compete for the title against St Ambrose Barlow, whom also had a strong squad of players. With Antonia Kelly captaining the team the girls set themselves up to go from the start. It took the girls a while to settle into the game as Ambrose made several attempts at goal, but thanks to the steady hands of OliviaMerriman the score sheet remained blank for a short while. Despite the great saves Ambrose did not give up the fight and eventually they put one into the net. Shortly after, due to a lack of communication they found the back of the net ,making it 2-0 at half time.

After a quick chat at half time, the girls focused on what they needed to do to turn the game around. It wasn't long before Amber Glennie collected the ball via a pass from Antonia before smashing it into the back of the net. This was just the start for Amber as shortly after goals 2 and 3 were put away.

This seemed to spur the team as they grew in confidence and applied the pressure at the other end of the pitch. After several attempts goals 4 and 5 came along from Antonia Kelly and Eve Garvey. The win will see the girls not compete in the Greater Manchester Futsal competition on the 12th May 2017,where they will compete for not only this title but also entry into the Naional Schools Futsal competition. Well done girls, hard work and great team spirit came through in the end.

Players : Captain Antonia Kelly,Maisy Haslam,Megan Evans,Morgan Dale, Eve Garvey, Amber Glennie, Boe Dalton,OliviaMerriman (MOM).
