Radio Star to Open New Trail for Walkers

Stuart Maconie, well known author and broadcaster and now president of the Ramblers, will open The Salford Trail on Tuesday 30 May at midday at Salford Quays Metrolink Stop.

Salle Dare, chair of the Manchester and Salford Ramblers said “We are really delighted that Stuart has agreed to open the Trail for us. Not only is he a great broadcaster and author but more importantly for us, he is a committed walker and passionate about open spaces for walking. There is no-one better to help us launch this important new trail for Salford” The Salford Trail, devised by the Ramblers is a long distance trail of about 50 miles entirely within Salford. The Trail takes you through some of the historical parts of Salford and out into open country walking along public footpaths, canal towpaths and through Salford’s many country parks. You will see the logo on signposts all around Salford so keep a lookout for them: This long distance trail is unique because it has been divided into ten shorter routes, all linked to public transport, so that people can choose to walk parts of the trail. There is a guide leaflet available for each section which gives directions, a map and some of the things to look out for.

You can find these in your local library, Gateway or leisure centre. Many local GPs support this initiative recognising how it can help people get active and keep healthy so many GP surgeries have local leaflets too. They can also be downloaded from the website

The Salford Trail is supported by the Ramblers, Transport for Greater Manchester and Salford City Council.
