Pupil  Attendance – Excellent Improvement

We are doing the right things to get students into school.

One of the areas that Ofsted said we needed to improve on was the attendance of some of our pupils. We acted quickly on this criticism and appointed two additional members of staff to work solely on this aspect of school life.

We monitor attendance on a weekly basis and since the inspection we have been pursuing certain students with low attendance and we have also been rewarding those who show good attendance. This work is already bearing fruit, with the attendance of one of our key groups of pupils climbing from 91.9% in December to 92.6% in February. In attendance, marginal gains of 0.7% are really, really significant. This is an excellent improvement and shows that we are doing the right things to get these students into school and learning.

We will continue to work on this key area as we all know; if you’re not in school, you can’t make much progress with your studies.
