Our Walkden STARS ethos is very important to us.

Sensible, Thoughtful, Ambitious, Respectful and Supportive are the five qualities our school council decided we should try to develop in our community here – staff and students. Our work this year in attempting to raise £7000 for When You Wish Upon A Star has clearly been about developing our ability to be Thoughtful and Respectful. Our student committee has managed many events in school in a very mature and Sensible manner from Cake Sales to Badge promotions. As part of our fundraising we had planned two events – cycling from John o’Groats to Lands End and the Cheshire Triathlon – which we felt would demonstrate Ambition. It certainly felt ambitious climbing to the top of Shap Pass on day 2 of the cycling!! What also came out of these two events was a strong sense of Support for each other and from our community in the widest sense. I would like to thank all of you for all of your support whether it has been financial or just in being positive and cheering others on. The amazing thing we have done together, as a community of parents, students and staff, is to have already raised more than we aimed for. We are well on the way to £8000 which will allow our charity to send a family on what might be their final holiday with a son or daughter. What we have done already is amazing – let’s see if we can make it £9000.
