Year 7s begin tournament with an encouraging show

On Monday 28th September, a select group of boys took part in Salford Red Devils’ 9-a-side Year 7 Rugby tournament. With 8 schools competing, it was the first opportunity for boys to play in a competitive event. In our pool games, Walkden earned a hard-fought 4-4 draw against Buile Hill ‘A’ team with Sam Hopkins crossing for the mint greens, and then we defeated St Patrick’s thanks to tries from Hopkins and Nathan Rannicar. The boys also ran out 8-4 winners against Buile Hill ‘B’ team as Max Moseley’s two tries were the difference between the two sides.

Top of our pool, we then featured in the final against an imposing looking All Hallows side. One strong running individual proved to be the difference as we fell to a 12-4 defeat but the boys can take great pride from their performance and the teamwork on show.

The Salford Schools’ League season doesn’t begin until the New Year but we have the makings of a good squad so I hope to see plenty attending training sessions in January!
