Last Day/First Day back arrangements

Dear Parent / Carer,

May I take this opportunity to thank you for your support during this academic year. In the final full weeks of the school year, I am asking for your continued support to ensure that the process of teaching and learning continues until the last bell.

The last day (Friday 17th July) timetable will be:

• A.M. Registration with Form Tutor  0840-0905
• Period 1 Lesson
 0910-1045
• Morning Break

• Period 2 Form Period/Assembly  1105-1245
• Lunch 12.45-1315
• P.M. Registration with Form Tutor  1315-1330

Due to this altered time of the school day, the only confirmed buses that will be available at 1.30 p.m. will be the Y7 to Monton Green and the Chesters 917 to Boothstown.

It has been an incredibly busy year. We have had a wide range of sporting events and collected many, many trophies. We have celebrated our student’s creativity at Oscars Night, Express Yourself Showcase, the Creative Celebration event and many more besides. Our production of Grease was a highlight of the year with so much talent in evidence both on and off stage. We recognise children who have done the right thing day in day out through our Rewards Trips and our forthcoming Rewards Evening. We have broadened horizons through a wide variety of trips and visits including Clothes Show Live, London & Manchester Theatre trips, French Trips, the Berlin trip and two trips to New York. We also marked Armistice Day with a whole school poppy drop and celebrated Christmas by holding a Christmas Carol Service.

We are constantly working to improve the school, and this summer will be installing extra fencing to protect our students’ bikes and to create an additional year 7 play ground. We will also be improving The Hive by closing off some of the spaces and putting in internal walls.

To cement relationships with you and to improve communications, from next September, we will continue to run our Senior Leadership Team ‘Drop In Surgery’ but on a Tuesday 2.30 p.m. – 5.00 p.m. There will be no need to make an appointment – just turn up.

First Day Back arrangements:

Pupils should arrive at school on Wednesday 2nd September, 2015 and assemble in the Atrium at the following times where staff will meet students and welcome them to their new school year.

Year 7, Year10 Peer Mentors & Student Leadership Team Gather in the Atrium from 8.15 a.m. Assembly at 8.30 a.m.

Year 11 Gather in the Atrium from 9.30 a.m. Assembly at 9.40 a.m.

Years 8, 9 & 10 Gather in the Atrium from 9.45 a.m. Move to Form Rooms at 10.00 a.m.

Lessons will start at 11.10 a.m. (Period 3)

School will finish at 2.50 p.m. next year.

Please keep in mind our high expectations of school uniform and be aware that students are expected back to school in September with the correct full school uniform (trainers, canvas shoes, leisure shoes, Vans etc. are not permitted). May we take this opportunity to remind you that any new piercing must be done at the very beginning of the Summer holiday, so that it may be removed if required in September.

School buses will continue using the dropoff and collection points on Birch Road (please check the school website for the school bus timetable). We strongly advise that parents continue to encourage youngsters to walk or cycle to school and use Birch Road as a drop off or collection point only when necessary.

Our children’s safety is paramount and other roads around the school site are not suitable for cars to use as collection points as they may cause considerable congestion which could become a safety risk for our students. We are confident that you will support us in assuring our children’s safety by avoiding these roads whilst at the same time taking into consideration our residents.

On your behalf, I must take this opportunity to express my thanks to all the staff for their hard work with the pupils both inside and outside the classroom and beyond the end of the school day. The students and the school would be very much poorer without this dedication. It is very much appreciated.

Wishing you all a good and safe summer holiday. Possibly a sunny one this year!

Mr S Lennox
Headteacher
