Junior Cricket – Blezard blitz seals another League title

Last week, the Junior XI played host to Bridgewater at Roe Green CC in their final Salford Schools’ league game. After winning the toss and electing to bat first, Walkden posted a commanding total of 100-3 off their 15 overs thanks mainly to an opening stand of 74 between Sam Blezard and Tallis Keeler. Blezard top scored with 37 whilst Keeler hit 31 as the runs flowed at the top of the order. In reply, Bridgewater struggled to keep up with the required rate and lost wickets at regular intervals. Tom Rawding took two wickets in two balls but couldn’t quite claim a hat-trick, whilst there were also wickets for Brad Peers, Luke Wilson and Lewis Brown as Bridgewater finished on 60-6. A 40-run victory sealed the Junior League title for another year. Well done boys!

This week saw the Junior XI take on Harrop Fold in a friendly game played at Walkden CC. Harrop Fold elected to bat first and their opening batsmen got off to a great start as they raced to 50 inside 10 overs. However, the Walkden bowlers held their nerve and took wickets with Tom Rawding (2-7) and Dan Gavaghan (1-5) the pick of the bowlers as Harrop’s innings closed on 73-6. Needing 74 to win, the run chase got off to a good start but a couple of quick wickets saw Walkden reduced to 38-3. Max Mulligan steadied the ship and top scored with 18 whilst Rawding (12*) and Gavaghan (5*) helped the boys over the line to finish on 75-4 to complete a 6-wicket victory.

Squad: Tom Rawding, Max Mulligan, Tallis Keeler, Sam Blezard, Lewis Brown, Koby Bentley, Daniel Gavaghan, Luke Wilson, Bradley Peers, Nathan Lacey, Jack Morrissey.
