We have all seen the absolute devastation that Typhoon Haiyan has caused to
the Philippines this week. It is estimated that in the region of 2500 people
have lost their lives with many more losing their homes and their belongings.

Rohan Patel, Aiden McGuirk and James Boswell from years 7 and 8 decided that they wanted to do something to help the people who are in desperate need of food, water and shelter. During the after school WOW club (Walkden’s Original Writers), the boys wrote a story. They have made copies of “ I Wanna Scare your Pants Off” and offered them to both pupils and staff around school, in exchange for a small donation. They hope to raise £100 to help “rebuild the homes and the lives of the people of The Philippines.” The boys have already
raised an amazing £50 and so are half way to their target amount.

The boys have shown true empathy with the unfortunate victims of the typhoon and thought of the idea to raise money completely on their own. They have given up their free time to visit teachers in their zones and have spoken eloquently about their cause. If you are interested in reading their story and want to donate to this worthy cause, copies will be available for sale in the atrium on Friday 15th November at break time. Please come along and give your much needed support.
