Greater Manchester Schools’ Winter Games

Great achievement for our Boys’ Volleyball

Last Tuesday, our junior and senior Volleyball teams took part in the Greater Manchester Schools’ Winter Games which took place at the Sugden Centre in the heart of Manchester.

Both teams played three games in the pool stage of the competition, the senior team came up against strong opposition and despite their best efforts, were unable to register a victory in their three games. However, the Junior team recording two wins against The Radclyffe School (25-15) and Denton Community (25-22) whilst losing to Bury Church (17-25) to finish second in the pool and qualify for the semi final stage of the competition.

In the semis, the boys faced Urmston GS and pushed their opponents all the way but a run of 8 points against the serve meant Urmston prevailed 25-17. The loss meant a 3rd/4th place play-off against Bury Church and despite their best efforts, the boys were playing catch up from the early stages of the game and fell to a 20-25 defeat.

Nevertheless, a fourth place finish is a great achievement at this level of competition and the boys should be extremely proud of their efforts. Well done!
