This week we said our final farewell to last year’s Year 11 – we had our Presentation Evening.  It was lovely to see so many familiar faces and to be able to comment on how much our graduates had matured in a few months. It was also great to celebrate their successes and to meet with parents, some for the last time, and to talk about the next important steps that these young people are taking.
Most are at college studying courses that would be far too difficult for me! Some are in apprenticeships and learning a trade that will be theirs all their lives. A very small number had some regrets and looked back at opportunities they had missed. This was sad, but we tried to reassure them that they can pick themselves up and try again - that they should live with courage and hope.
Our guest speaker, Mr Nazir Afzal OBE, Chief Crown Prosecutor for the North West of England, spoke to our students and parents about overcoming adversity, whether it comes in the shape of prejudice,   bullying or economic hardship. He was an inspiration and his message was a simple one: the only person who will stop you doing something is yourself. Absolutely.
