And finally ...

I usually try to keep our newsletter upbeat and positive, but feel that I need to make sure that both our pupils and you as parents understand some of the key, unmoveable lines that we have to have in school.

If your child brings illegal drugs to school, or has them in their possession, I will have to permanently exclude them from our community. I will not enter into a conversation about how much or for what purpose. If they have them, they have them. So-called ‘legal highs’, including the nitrous oxide canisters, fit into this category too. There is no place in school for drugs of any kind.

If your child uses a knife, blade or sharp object in a way that I think could lead to serious injury or worse then I will have to permanently exclude them from our community too. I will not accept the risk that a child could die because someone can’t understand that blades are incredibly dangerous.

We speak to your child on a regular basis about the risks associated with drugs and knives and know that you will welcome our clear and strong stance on these issues. You want to know that your child is as safe as we can make them and holding firm on these two issues are key to this.
